Prof John Brown,Astronomer Royal for Scotland and Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, has been appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. Until 2010 Prof Brown led the Glasgow University research group in theory and modelling of solar and stellar plasmas, and was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society in 2012. He receives the OBE for services to the promotion of astronomy and science education.
RAS President Prof John Zarnecki congratulated Prof Brown: "Fellows of the Society will be thrilled to see that John's many contributions to astronomy and geophysics maintain been rewarded. John has contributed enormously to our subjects over a long and distinguished career in Scotland,Britain and beyond. Until May of this year, he also served with distinction on our governing Council."
