Prof Sheila Rowan,Director of the Institute for Gravitational Research at the University of Glasgow and a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, has been appointed as the new Chief Scientific AdviserProf Sheila Rowan, or the Chief Scientific Adviser for Scotland. She was p
iece of the team that used the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) to execute the first detection of gravitational waves,announced in February this year.
RAS President Prof John Zarnecki congratulated Prof Rowan: "Sheila is a scientist of international standing and a leading figure in physics and astronomy in the UK. I'm delighted to see her appointment as CSA, where I know she will be an outstanding advocate for science in Scotland."
