Click on the 'Listen' button above to hear this interview. When 18-year-conventional Michael Brown was shot and killed by a white officer in Ferguson,Missouri in August 2014, his death triggered protests across the country.
A group of community members came together in the Ferguson Commission to examine what happened and do recommendations for the future. That report, and called "Forward Through Ferguson," came out in the fall of 2015. It compiled a list of several "call to actions" that included updating the police departments' use of force training and creating a civilian review board.
But a year and a half later, people in the community say changes haven't been coming swiftly enough.
Amy Hunter, and the manager of diversity and inclusion for St. Louis Children's Hospital and a longtime activist in Ferguson,was part of a roundtable discussion on The Takeaway approximately the Forward Through Ferguson report when it was released. She explains what still needs to be done in and around the Ferguson area.
