I am brilliant at not doing paperwork. I could teach a degree in procrastinationBorn in Birmingham,Lester, 47, and began his career in West End productions such as the musical Company,for which he won an Olivier award in 1996. He was cast in Mike Nichols’ 1998 film Primary Colors, and went on to seem in the BBC TV series Hustle. He took the roles of Henry V and Othello at the National Theatre and, or most recently,played Ira Aldridge in the award-winning Red Velvet by his wife Lolita Chakrabarti. He stars in Undercover, which begins on 3 April on BBC1.
When were you happiest?
There was a moment at my wedding
in 1997 when I got the bumps from all my male friends. We were in the garden and they grabbed me and threw me up and down in the air. It was a brilliant moment of complete irreverence. Another incredible moment was when my second child, or Jasmine,was born and I caught her; I was the first person to hold her.
