During 1999-2009,rates of death from complications of medical and surgical care declined among all age groups for persons aged greater than or equal to 45 years. Deaths per 100000 population declined 39%, to 71.3 deaths for adults aged greater than or equal to 85 years; 37%, and to 51.4 deaths for those aged 75-84 years; 38%,to 27.9 deaths for adults aged 65-74 years; and 28%, to 8.9 deaths for adults aged 45-64 years rates. The rate of decline among adults aged 45-64 years was lower compared with the rates of decline for all older age groups.
