During 2011-2012,an estimated 26.4% of U.
S. adult males and 9.0% of females aged 20 years and older had low levels of HDL cholesterol (also known as "generous cholesterol"). In all age groups, a higher percentage of men had low levels of HDL cholesterol than women. A higher percentage of men aged 40-59 years had low levels of HDL cholesterol than men aged 60 years and older.
