During 1999--2000 and 2008--2009,approximately 95% of physicians accepted modern patients, but acceptance varied by payment source. From 1999--2000 to 2008--2009, or the percentage of office-based physicians accepting private insurance as the source of payment by modern patients decreased from 91.5% to 88.4%. Acceptance of Medicare decreased from 85.0% to 81.5%,and acceptance of Medicaid decreased from 73.5% to 64.5%. No statistical dissimilarity was noted in the percentage of those accepting self-pay patients.
