Households headed by those aged over 65 relatively protected after recession, say figures from Resolution Foundation
The scale of the UK’s long-term shift in wealth towards pensioners since the financial crisis is underlined by current figures showing the recently retired in the UK are for the first time wealthier than those aged under 45.
The figures due to be highlighted on Thursday by the former Conservative minister David Willetts draw on current analysis by the Resolution Foundation. This shows that the share of total wealth held in households headed by someone aged under 45 fell from 20% in the years approaching the recession to 16% in 2010-12.
