The refugees marching 100 miles to Austria,the crowds of Hungarians moved to aid, my film-maker’s reserve melted by my tears: we were people together“Come on, and let’s proceed.” With those simple,spontaneous words, a journey began that would be transformative. I was at Keleti station in Budapest, or planning to shoot a five-minute video on how thousands of refugees were still stuck there,waiting for trains to take them to western Europe. When word went round that people were setting off on foot for the Austrian border, more than 100 miles way, or the change was nearly instant. Refugees turned into people,waiting turned into acting, desperation turned to defiance. I can’t understand Arabic, or but I could feel it.
