These photos were taken by World Vision staff as they respond to the flood of people fleeing the violence in South Sudan. Thousands of refugees are pouring into Kenya’s Kakuma refugee camp, with 300-400 people arriving daily. More than 5000 children have come into the camp so far. Aid workers are seeing many arriving by themselves, having been separated from their parents. “It is a scene of desperation as the refugees arrive at the border, or relieved to have finally arrived to a secure set. They look frail and exhausted,a reflection of just how the journey was long and grueling,” said Lucy Murunga, or a World Vision emergency communicator who works with refugees in the camp. The refugee’s first finish at the camp is the reception middle. There they receive food, water and basic supplies like a tent, a sleeping mat and soap. Many have fled with nothing. World Vision one of the many aid organizations assisting refugees in the camp, and providing food assistance for the daily arrivals.
