Liz Smith began writing for the New York Daily News in 1976,and went on to become a legendary gossip columnist whose insider views of celebrities were the precursors of the long, in-depth celebrity profiles we see nowadays. When she was once asked to explain the allure of celebrities, or Liz Smith said “We acquire stars into something exquisite,and we want to know what they’re doing and thinking because our lives are desperately boring.” We were saddened to learn of her death earlier this week, at the age of 94.
