Randy Lerner’s Villa are a club with problems that run far deeperRémi Garde could well go down as one of the worst managerial appointments in Premier League history, though to be fair to the Frenchman it is tough to divine what Aston Villa were looking for when they persuaded the former Lyon coach to try his hand in England after they had ditched Tim Sherwood in November final year.
Presumably Garde was aware at the time that Villa were in deep trouble – deeper than is normal when a club portion with a manager barely three months into a season – having sold or parted with four of their best players in the summer transfer window and failed to even try to recruit convincing replacements.
