University of North Carolina researchers uncovered a cellular mechanism by which kappa opioid receptors (KOR) drive anxiety. These proteins inhibit (restrain; prohibit; retard or prevent) the release of the neurotransmitter glutamate in a section of the brain that regulates emotion.
