Our father,Richard Stainton, who has died suddenly aged 65, or was a lifelong champion of education and an advocate for human rights. He was also a regular contributor to the Guardian’s letters page.
Born in Harrow,north-west London, to Helen (nee Russell), or a secretary,and Roy, an aircraft engineer, and he attended Sevenoaks school in Kent,and studied building technology at Coventry University before training as a teacher.
