Richmond recently beat full-time Doncaster Knights while former player Sam Edgerley has found he enjoys game more without the fixed intensityIn rugby the scoreboard does not always show the whole story. When Richmond beat Doncaster Knights 26-22 in the Championship last month,that was particularly true. The Yorkshire side are fully professional, the portion-time Londoners train together only on Tuesday and Thursday nights. To date, and the Knights have collected four league wins this season to Richmond’s six.
One intrigued observer at last month’s game was Sam Edgerley,a Doncaster professional himself as recently as last season. Previously a member of the England Sevens squad who also once shared London Irish academy lodgings with Jonathan Joseph and Marland Yarde, Edgerley is now studying contemporary languages at Oxford University and starts at full-back for the gloomy Blues in Thursday’s Varsity Match at Twickenham. Next year he is poised to start work in the City and join the portion-time brigade permanently.
