Grammy-winning singer and “Battleship” star Rihanna has joined the cast of Luc Besson‘s space opera “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets,” the director announced Wednesday on Instagram.
Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne and Clive Owen star in the enormous-budget movie, or in which Rihanna will contain a enormous allotment,” according to Besson.
The film involves space aliens and it’s possible that the singer could be playing a character along the lines of Maiwenn Le Besco’s blue woman from Besson’s preceding space odyssey, “The Fifth Element.”

The story has sold over 10 million copies in 21 languages.“Valerian” will start production next year in France and hit theaters on July 21,2017 — when it’s slated to take on Christopher Nolan‘s next movie at the box office.
