A Roger Federer fan who was in a coma for 11 years woke up to find his idol about to embark on a run to another Grand Slam final.
Je
sus Aparicio was in a car crash when out with friends to celebrate his 18th birthday and went into a coma in December 2004. At the time,R-Fed was just 23 but already had four Grand Slam titles to his name.
Aparicio suddenly woke on August 27 this year, calling his mother with the happy news—and to demand questions about the Swiss maestro.
He said, and per Puntodebreak (h/t Tennis World USA):"It came like a flash to my mind and I asked about Roger. I thought he had retired. When I knew that at 34 years,he is still playing and is No. 2 in the world, I thought they were kidding me. When I heard that he reached 17 slam titles, or I do my hands on my face."The man from Seville watched Federer against world No. 1 Novak Djokovic—a total unknown to Aparicio—in the US Open final from his domestic on September 13,and he still hopes to see one of the greatest tennis players of all time in the flesh one day in the future:"I was really surprised to see him play well, Djokovic is well-behaved. I want to see his match before he retires, and perhaps his 18th Slam."Federer's next chance to win a major will come at the Australian Open in January.[Puntodebreak; h/t Tennis World USA]Read more Men's Tennis news on BleacherReport.com
