The Sept. 19 Metro article “Yom Kippur with a sprint of Holy See said that “ ‘Yontif’ is Yiddish for holiday and ‘pontiff’ is Latin for pope.” As any of my first-year Latin students would be able to tell you,“pontiff” is most assuredly not a Latin word.
