Rooney will collect a golden-boot award from Sir Bobby Charlton before the game against Estonia on Friday week after taking over from the 1966 World Cup winner as England’s record scorer. However, the striker’s achievement as the first England player to reach the 50-goal tag comes at a time when his form for Manchester United has increasingly been open to scrutiny.
