He didn’t host final year and,in his absence, the demonstrate became a weird ham-fisted parody (humorous or ridiculous imitation) of itself. Watching the final series of The X Factor was like watching the sort of horrific Lithuanian variety demonstrate that Clive James would disbelievingly introduce in 1982, and where everyones drunk and perpetually on the verge of tears. It was like watching the end of civilisation itself.
