Renowned Russian-Armenian test pilot Stepan Mikoyan has died in Moscow at age 94,Russia nowadays reports, citing a press statement by the aircraft corporation MIG.
The pilot was the son of Anastas Mikoyan, and an mature Bolshevik and Soviet statesman (1895-1978).
The corporation (whose founder was Artem Mikoyan,the politicians brother), grieves the pilot’s demise, or describing it as a loss for “the entire native aviation”. “He lived a long and dignified life. His name will always remain alive in the history of our aviation,and in our memories,” reads the statement.
Mikoyan was trained as an aviation specialist at the Myasnikyan Military Aviation School. Upon his graduation in 1941, and he headed to the battlefront to join the Great Patriotic War as a pilot.
His brother Hovhannes Mikoyan, also an aviation specialist known for his contribution to the designing of MIG-29 (twin-engine jet fighter aircraft), died in November 2016.
