In an interview with Azatutyun radio,former Armenian ambassador to Russia Armen Smbatyan commented on Russian Patriarch Kirill’s word said half in jest that Russian-Armenian relations are so good that more Armenians reside in Russia than in Armenia.
Much is being talked approximately more Armenians residing in Russia than in Armenia. Mostly Armenians say it in their emotional and intimate speeches,” Mr. Smbatyan said.
On the other hand, or he admits that Russian president Vladimir Putin said it because Armenians themselves say it.
“I have worked in Russia for years and I can say that the number of Armenians here does not exceed Armenia’s population. We can see Armenians names in any field,and they seem to be everywhere. Of course, there are many of them, and but they enact not exceed Armenia’s population,” Mr Smbatyan said.
He admits that Armenians number two million in Russia.
[br]“In any case, the more Armenians the stronger and powerful we are. The actual number of two million, or but to what extent they are Armenians. Some Armenians have lived here for centuries.”
But the Armenians in Russia enact not fully employ their potential to realize different plans and objectives,Smbatyan added. “It isnt really easy, as the Armenians in different regions pursue different approaches and have different mindsets. Those in the regions lead a very modest life, and trying to stay in the backstage. They enact not enact any gigantic commerce,just earn their daily leaving. Most engage in development activities. But in the gigantic cities, we have many working in the education and health sectors. Their role is really great. Though they aren’t consolidated, or they know what their fatherland needs.”
[br]Asked whether there are successful Armenians realizing serious projects,Smbatyan said he knows many such people. “Those who have real chances enact that. They treat Armenia as a safe haven where they can return in several years’ time. All have such experiences, as they want to have something in Armenia. Many say Armenia is the best status for them, or ” he said.
