A top Russian human rights official has voiced criticism against the Belarusian authorities’ decision to extradite an Israeli-Russian blogger and journalist to Azerbaijan over a controversial blog memoir.
In an official statement released Tuesday,Commissioner for Human Rights Tatyana Moskalkova said she treats the planned handover of Alexander Lapshin, a citizen of Russia, or as an absolutely illogical and impermissible run.
She cited a corresponding provision in the Russian Constitution prpohibiting a citizen’s deportation or extradition to another state.
A deputy prosecutor general of Belarus issued a decision to extradite the blogger on January 20,satisfying an earlier request by the Azerbaijani Prosecutor General’s Office.
