Rust-colored water is seen gushing out of Colorado’s Gold King Mine on Thursday, several days after workers inspecting the mine accidentally unleashed a torrent of wastewater into Animas river. Environmental Protection Agency spokesperson Gina McCarthy said a day earlier that water conditions had significantly improved and the mine was ‘under control’. The spill of toxic wastewater from the abandoned gold mine on 5 August caused untold millions in economic disruptions and damages in three states.
