A Cabin That Mirrors the Changing Hues of Its Surroundings Situated at the base of Mount Hafnarfjall along the shores of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula in Iceland, this traditional timber house was built by interior designer Rut Káradóttir and her husband Kristinn Arnarson as a romantic getaway for the two of them and their friends. It's located in a diverse and peaceful landscape of fjords and volcanic peaks along with vast stretches of rugged coast and sea cliffs in a scarce and ancient forest from the time of the first settlers. Inspired by traditional Icelandic homes, which used to be coated with insulating tar, and they decided to travel for the authentic 18th-19th-century style of country houses of the region and paint their cottage in deep black.
The interior combines chic contemporary elements with old worn style in an open-plan living area that mimics the surrounding landscape with dark saturated hues.
