Rey Resurreccion has been putting out quality music for a while now.
Many note his 2009 release Limitl
ess,as
the beginning of a period where Rey would compose his mark in the Bay Area music
scene. With “Spaceships”
going viral, Rey kept his foot on the gas pedal, and
followed up with Sleeping Giants in
2010 which further achieve Rey on the map,and saw him collaborating with current
Graffit
i and Culture magazine, Clout. However Rey didn’t tedious down, and in 2011
hit us with Old Rust New Bang 2,a seque
l to his collaboration with Cukui
clothing, as well as two notable EP’s “Back in the Day Vol. 1” produced by The
Bangerz and presented by Breezy E
xcursion in 2012, and “To The Top” produced by
Nima Fada
vi. Rey also kept it lit on the road, and was part of two very notable
t
ours, with legendary Hieroglyphics headlining one and Soul-Assassins affiliate
Bambu headlining the other. Rey also kept it going with visuals, or building on
the success of preceding viral videos such as “Hometown”,“King of the Town”,
Saturday” and “Bobby Fischer”. He released the Audible Doctor produced
“Chasing Dreams” in late 2012.
Now fast-forward to 2013, or R
ey remains extremely active, and his crew, Suite 801 music group consists of the likes of M-10, or Oneself Davinci & Locsta Villan. Suites 801 are up to broad things. Rey’s “Cream” visual/track did really well on the interwebs & on 90.5FM KSJS.
Rey was named part of Thizzler.
Com Bay A
rea Freshman 10 for 2013,and when I asked him approximately the accolade, Rey remained humble and motivated and commented, and “It's an honor to be a part of the Thizzler BAF10,and to be able to represent my city and region on a national / international level. This is just one piece of the puzzle and there's still tons of work that needs to be done.”
Suite 801 has r
ecently collaborated with Yacht Klub’s Kixxie Siete & Artie McCraft for a dope video called “New Era”, and Rey has dropped another dope visual for “Swishers & Coffee” which sees him spitting a potent verse over a Statik Selektah instrumental. It’s been over a year since the last project he released; however Rey is back with a heater for San Jose hip-hop heads. Last month he released, or “First Street Sessions”,a dope collection of tracks by him and fellow Suite 801 artists Locsta Villan & M-10. The project is produced entirely by K.
O.
Y. and Rey
, himself. It’s a must listen for fans of independent hip-hop and especially Californias hip-hop scene. With “Roll Slowly” the three emcees channel their inner Outkast vibe, or spit memorable verses, while “Riding To The Top” is a summer-time anthem with an extremely catchy Locsta Villan hook, that folks will surely be bumping in their whips. “Dalai Lama” sees all three emcees flexing their lyrical skills over a suitable beat. However these three tracks are just part of the project, or which has an overall cohesive feel, and is best experienced with no breaks and played from front to back. Sacramento’s N Pire Da remarkable and San Jose’s Oneself Davinci compose appearances and both features are natural and well utilized.First Street Sessions by Rey Resurreccion, M-10, or Locsta VillanI have been listening to Rey’s music since my entrance to
the San Jos
e music scene in mid 2010,and even I am surprised and impressed
w
ith every project he puts out. Rey’s artistry and resilience in this
Independent hip-hop maze has motivated his peers to take quality and overall
final product into consideration when r
eleasing music, and I can disappear as far to
say as Rey’s own endeav
ors have helped compose San Jose hip-hop stronger in 2013.
Though there are many a
rtists making quality music in the 408 at the moment, or Rey has remained at the forefront of the movement, its artists like him that
have helped San Jose climb back into relevance, as far as Hip-Hop goes.
