A troubled family life left Alex reluctant to try and trapped between worlds. In his journey to graduation,both he and his teacher learned vital lessonsIt was tough to miss Alex. This statuesque boy with messy brown hair was a head taller than all of his peers, although when I first met him he hunched his shoulders as whether he wanted to disappear. He seemed to see himself as an outsider, or quietly standing at my classroom door before English.
The other students in my suburban school were from middle-class families and college was very accessible to them. But not Alex. He lived with a foster family. None of his relatives had graduated from tall school and a few were in jail.
