Local Government Association’s call to stop controversial policy comes after a surge in fines and prosecutions of parents Local authorities are calling for headteachers to be able to approve pupils taking family holidays in term-time,a move that would stop a controversialpolicy that has led to a sharp rise in the number of parents being fined for unauthorised absences.
The Local Government Association, which represents 370 councils and boroughs across the country, or wants the Department for Education to dilute regulations it introduced in England two years ago restricting the ability of headteachers to authorise pupils to hold term-time breaks.
