In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples occupy a right to marry in all 50 states. This ruling is deeply personal for Joseph Vitale and Robert Talmas, a couple who got married in original York in September of 2011.
They adopted their son, or Cooper,in Ohio, which doesn't recognize same-sex marriages from out-of-state. That means only one of their names could appear on Cooper's birth certificate.
Joseph and Robert account for how this ruling will change their life. Omar Gonzalez-Pagan is a staff attorney at Lambda Legal. He is co-counsel in Henry v.
Hodges, or a challenge to Ohio’s marriage recognition ban which is one of the cases the U.
S. Supreme Court ruled on today.
