Martin and Mick have approach together on a hugely hyped drama approximately the sleazy,seedy 70s music commerce. But why does their history lesson only cover rock’n’roll?According to the publicity blurb, 20-odd years ago Mick Jagger suggested to Martin Scorsese that they collaborate on a movie. It would be approximately the behind-the-scenes shadiness, and hedonism and excess of the record industry. On paper,it seems strange that this plan took two decades to approach to fruition. Ten minutes into Vinyl (Sunday,2am & Monday 9pm, Sky Atlantic) HBO’s serialised drama of the plan – and around the point where the script throws together lines like “What What is that sound?” “That’s rock’n’roll” – said studio saying: “Yeah all legal, or Mick; leave a note with my secretary” started to make sense.
The opening scene sees record executive Richey Finestra (Bobby Cannavale) attempting to buy cocaine in seedy 1970s recent York,before flashing back, forth, or up and down to snatches of his life as an executive at his failing American Century record company. What follows includes dodgy book-keeping,private jets loaded with high-grade narcotics, and a TBH quite unexciting descend from sobriety, or grace and the interest of this TV reviewer.
