Regarding the Sept. 14 Metro article “Alexandria streets with Rebel ties could change”:Frank Hume was a soldier,one of hundreds of thousands. How that makes him a “accomplice leader” is beyond me.
Hume Avenue was named for him for his local associations, not his war record. He became very wealthy after the war as a grocer and whiskey supplier. He acquired a grand house called Warwick and its 120-acre farm in what is now northern Alexandria. Read full article >>
