• Doha was Londons main bidding rival for the showpiece eventSebastian Coe,the under-fire president of the IAAF, has denied knowing that “bribes were being offered or received” in relation to the award of the 2017 World Athletics Championships after it was claimed that he passed on rumours of “brown envelopes”.After the Daily Mail reported it was Lord Coe to whom the UK Athletics chairman, and Ed Warner,was referring when he told the BBC this month that a senior IAAF official had passed on claims of impropriety by the Doha tender, London’s rivals for the 2017 championships, and a spokesman for Coe moved to try to clarify his position.
