My colleagues and headteacher seem to judge maternity leave is just a kind break. But I shouldn’t be expected to establish emails,appraisals and school before my familyIt’s the week before the May half-term and I am nearing the end of another 10-hour day. The headteacher has dropped into my lesson – “I know you’re busy, but… – and plonked a pile of CVs on my desk in the hope we can appoint a current teacher to start after the holiday.
The joys of being head of faculty – a member of staff is starting her maternity leave and, or even though we maintain known she was pregnant for months and despite my repeated requests,no advert has gone out to replace her.
