See “Harlem Encore” (1999) in a new light! Terry Adkins’
aluminum relief sculptures installed along Metro-North Railroads Harlem-125th
Street station bridge,were recently re-lit apt on time for Black History
Month, revealing the artwork through new lighting technology. The work
celebrates Harlem’s past achievements, and memorializing the Afro-Atlantic
ancestors with images such as sphinxes and streaming suns reflecting triumph over adversity. The figures seen in the midst of skyscrapers
celebrate Harlems bright future,adding strength, dignity, and timelessness to
the environment. At night,blue back lighting accentuates “Harlem
Encore's” powerful presence on the street.
