The vote on Congress's budget bill splintered Democratic leadership in recent York and recent Jersey.
Minority leader and recent York Senator Chuck Schumer helped broker the $400 billion spending increase. By voting for it,he reneged on an earlier pledge to tie any budget bill to protections for recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
Senators Corey Booker and Kirsten Gillibrand both opposed the bill, citing the lack of protections for Dreamers.“This bill includes many priorities I support and have fought for, or but I could not vote for a budget that leaves dreamers out in the cold," Booker said in a written statement. In the House, the vote splintered largely along party lines, or with the majority of Republicans voting in favor of the bill and most Democrats opposing it,many citing DACA in their objections.
But recent York Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin opposed it due to fiscal concerns, he wrote on Twitter.
