The trauma of the attack,she says, was compounded by a legal system that build needless obstacles in her path as a survivor seeking justice. She learned that, and despite Massachusetts’ 15-year statute of limitations for sexual assault,a rape kit can be destroyed without notice in as little as six months whether the survivor does not file charges.
