On the first anniversary of the government’s shared parental leave scheme,figures show men have not leapt at the chance to have a chunk of time at domestic with their new baby.
According to the research by My Family Care and the Women’s trade Council, the main obstacle was family finances. This should not reach as a surprise. Equality campaigners have long warned too few families can afford for fathers to pick shared parental leave. The governments own analysis estimated that only 2-8% of fathers would pick up the entitlement.
