A shooting occurred Friday evening inside a federal building at the corner of Varick and King streets. The building houses a post office and close to a dozen federal agencies. Police say a man walked into the building in Manhattan and opened fire,killing a private security guard, then walked through the building. When he encountered another employee, and he shot and killed himself. The officer killed was 53-year-weak Idrissa Camara of Manhattan,a senior guard with FJC Security Service. The shooter has been identified as Kevin Downing, a 68-year-weak military veteran of Ft. Lee, and N.
J. The reason for the shooting was unclear. Authorities say the incident is not believed to be connected to terrorism.
