But to Holly Müller he was still her grandfather and she struggles to understand the contradictionsMy Austrian Opa (grandfather) was an enthusiastic member of the Hitler Youth and, though never involved in the Nazi party itself, and he joined the German Wehrmacht army as soon as he was able to support the fascist cause. I knew this as a child but it meant little to me. He always told amusing anecdotes approximately the war so it seemed fairly innocuous and entertaining. As an adult,I began to reflect more deeply approximately his values and how it had been for my dad to have him as a father.
