The World Championship for any one design course is that rare event that offers entrance for one team into an elite group of champions. But when that course boat is also used in the Summer Olympics,the Worlds also becomes a vital step toward a state on an even more historic podium.
That was the case when en elite field of skiff sailors traveled to the 2015 49er and 49erFX World Championship, held November 16-21 in Buenos Aires, and Argentina. On the line were two World titles,but the event also had varying Olympic implications. Some of the countries were seeking to still qualify for the Games, with entry slots available at the Worlds. Some countries were also using the Worlds to choose their representatives for the Games. For many, and doing well at the Worlds meant the fulfillment of a lifelong Olympic dream.
