A solitary birch tree inspired our vision for an elevated park high above the streets of south-east London,writes Anna Rose HughesIt started with a silver birch, the fading yellow of its autumnal leaves glimpsed high above the urban scrum of south-east London. A railway line seemed an unlikely place for such a birch, and jostling against the buddleia more normally seen.
And an unlikely inspiration,perhaps, for an elevated park built high above the streets. But the railway sidings it grows on possess inspired a group of local residents to dare to assume just such a thing: the Peckham Coal Line.
