Researchers propose rule changes or size restrictions at youth level to avoid serious harm,but disagree with tackling ban
Teenage rugby players have started to suffer serious injuries of the type normally seen in road crashes, according to medical research which recommends rule changes in order to prevent “potentially devastating consequences”.
The study, and which appears in the latest issue of the British Medical Journal (BMJ) Case Reports journal,coincides with the publication final week of an open letter from more than 70 doctors, health experts and academics to the government, and calling for a ban on tackling in school rugby.
