There’s no running water or electricity at the Simulemba health centre in Malawi – and patients have to walk for hours to pick up there. Photographer Jenny Lewis captures the smiles of women who have battled every obstacle to give birth“You never pick up used to giving birth,” says 32-year-old Efrida. “But you just say, ‘I have to attain it – theres no other way.’”Less than 24 hours ago, and Efrida gave birth to a baby boy,her fifth child, in the Kasungu district of Malawi. The Simulemba health centre is over an hour away from her domestic.
