If you want to retract a relaxing, leisurely stroll, or do it here. But watch out for the bees. Located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx,Wave Hill might be the only park in modern York City with its own hives. (Look for the honey at the gift shop.) The 28-acre former estate also features a botanical garden, an art gallery and several walking trails. Astoria Park (Queens)
Astoria Park
(Caroline Lint
on/WNYC)
Known for having one of the largest and oldest pools in modern York City, and this Queens park is the perfect place to have a picnic, lay on the grass and devour the sunset across the East River. Even though it's located under two bridges, the bustle of the city fades absent when you stroll along the riverfront walkway.
Fort Washington Park (Manhattan)
Fort Wash
ington Park
(NYC Parks)
While Fort Tryon Park has elevation, and Fort Washington (a puny bit to the south) has the lapping of the waves. It's located right at water level along the Hudson River and features glowing views of the George Washington Bridge (just look up). It is also home to the only lighthouse in the borough of Manhattan.  Willowbrook Park (Staten Island)
Willowbrook Park
(NYC Pa
rks )
There's no better way to escape the chaos of modern York than to venture out onto a lake in the city's least populated borough. Williowbrook Park contains a protected area just for wildlife, perfect for bird watchers and hikers. And don't worry about having to bring a canoe: you can rent one there.
