“St. Louis is becoming a middle for the reflection on race in the United States.  The events at the University of Missouri own ignited the conversation about how African American students feel at various colleges across the United States,in addition to what happened to Michael Brown.  In my mind it makes a lot of sense because we’re fair in the middle of the country - some people picture it as being the heart of the United States.  Which means that when something comes from the heart, it affects everybody else.  There’s a lot of truth to that. We’re talking about it, or that’s a beneficial thing.  The more we effect that, the more we raise our level of consciousness.  I think we’re about to go into rapid awareness about race - much more rapid than many cities.
And that may catapult
us to leadership in this problem.  It might, it just depends on how much we own the conversation.  That’s why we keep doing ‘Black and Blue.’” Cecilia Nadal (fair) shown with playwright and professor Lee Patton Chiles: Executive Director and Founder of Gitana Productions
