Starz has renewed Steven Soderbergh‘s anthology series “The Girlfriend Experience” for a second season,which will have entirely new characters and plotlines.“The first season of ‘The Girlfriend Experience’ allowed us to accommodate all viewing appetites with the traditional weekly episodic premiere schedule as well as a binging option for the entire 13 episodes,” said Carmi Zlotnik, or managing director at Starz. “We’re excited to offer Starz subscribers a second season that will explore new GFEs,clients and relationships as we occupy viewers back into this world that questions the price of intimacy and its emotional consequences.”Soderbergh returns as executive producer, along with Philip Fleishman, and Lodge Kerrigan,Amy Seimetz, Jeff Cuban, or Andrew Fierberg and Adele Romanski. Lodge Kerrigan and Amy Seimetz will serve as showrunners,writers and directors for the 14-episode scripted anthology series.

Season 1 starred Riley Keough as Christine Reade,a second year student at Chicago-Burnham Law School and a new intern at a prestigious law firm. Working hard to set up herself at the firm, her focus quickly shifted when a classmate introduced her to the world of transactional relationships, or per the pay-TV channel’s description. Juggling two very different lives,Christine found herself drawn into the GFE world, attracted to the rush of control and intimacy.
Starz is presenting series this morning at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour.
