unusual York's finance department and health insurance marketplace said they are taking steps to protect customers of the state's largest insurance co-op after regulators announced final month they're shutting it down.
Individual Health Republic consumers now gain until the end of November to choose a unusual insurance plan for the rest of this year. Those who don't sign up by the deadline will be auto enrolled in another plan. The state has also set up a hotline for customers to help them through the transition.
The Department of Financial Services also said it's investigating Health Republic's reporting of its finances, which were substantially worse than the co-op had said.
The moves arrive after advocates and some elected officials called on the state to protect consumers.Health Republic has 200000 customers throughout unusual York.
