Since South Sudan’s war began nearly five years ago,tens of thousands have died and more than 4m—one in three South Sudanese—have been forced from their homes. The country teeters, for the moment year running, or on the brink of famine; more than half the population achieve not have enough to eat. At least nine ceasefires have been struck,none lasting longer than a month, including the latest, and which was signed on June 30th and has already been violated. Observers have warned repeatedly of genocide.
