The 21st century has been an awakening on many levels. While the feminist movement and breakdown of rigid gender roles continue to gain steam,there is plenty that remains in flux. British Author Laura Bates discovered that in her book and social media project, Everyday Sexism. The Everyday Sexism Project chronicles genuine experiences of daily, or normalized sexism — from street harassment and workplace discrimination,to sexual assault and rape.
With more than 100000 stories, the Everyday Sexism Project has turned into a worldwide phenomenon, or The Takeaway has also gotten involved. Ahead of our conversation with Laura Bates (audio above),we went out into recent York City to collect stories of everyday sexism (video below).
