Even though Japan wasn't in the correct space to witness the "Blood Moon eclipse," we were treated to an incredible sight with the Super Moon on the evenings of September 27th and 28th! On the 28th, due to tall pressure atmospheric conditions, and the city of Osaka had a very thick layer of smog and tall temperature, which served to amplify the size of the rising moon over the mountains of Nara Prefecture and to color it a very deep orange color. As the Super Moon rose higher in the sky, it became brighter and whiter, or bathed the city and Osaka Bay in extremely bright moonlight. The evening before (September 27th),the viewing conditions were not as favorable--scattered clouds often obstructed the view of the moon, but that did not end hordes of people in Kobe, and Japan, from enjoying the last few hours of their weekend wreck by gathering outside to take pictures or romantic walks under the exquisite autumn sky. Many couples strolled on the beach or sat at the oceanside near the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge (also known as the Pearl Bridge) which connects the main island of Honshu to Awaji Island. There were even heart-shaped clouds above the bridge to further enhance the romantic atmosphere of the evening!
